Matilija GATE Program 2005/2006
Dear GATE Families,
My name is Jim Bailey. I will be the GATE coordinator for the MJHS campus this year.
As a former GATE student, I am very excited, and honored to have the chance to work with my colleagues, your students, and of course you, in order to provide an enriched academic experience for Matilija students. Please feel free to contact me with your questions or comments. I can be reached in several different ways:
School phone: 805-640-4355 x1613
Home phone: 805-794-3221
This years GATE program at Matilija will include differentiated instruction in the classroom
and after-school enrichment opportunities provided by the English and Science departments.
Differentiated instruction (DI) is the current model of support recommended by the state
for GATE students. DI simply allows for the teacher to provide all students with an increased opportunity for learning within the lesson. Often times this means a higher quality of work expected or expanded requirements for class projects. While simple in concept, DI can often be challenging for teachers to integrate into a majority of their lessons, and as such is often most easily recognized in larger scale class or home projects. I will be providing our staff with a selection of ways in which they can ensure that they are providing adequate access to differentiated instruction in your student’s classroom.
The English Department will be providing GATE students the opportunity to be involved in an inter-disciplinary exploration of art and music. This program, called Maestro in the Classroom, will take place in the spring. Maestro in the Classroom is being provided through the hard work and inspired dedication of Ms. Cindy Israel.
The Science Department will be providing your students with a winter telescope-building workshop
