Optimist Club Speech Contest Winner

Congratulations to Matilija 8th grader Claudia Adelman for winning this year’s Oratorical Contest.  Sponsored by the Optimist Club of Ojai, this speech contest promotes public speaking, essay writing, and creativity, as well as many other invaluable skills.  This year’s contest asked students to prepare a 4-5 minute speech on “how optimism will help me to press on to greater achievements in the future.” Claudia, pictured at right with Speech Advisor Ms. Israel, defines optimism as “feeling hopeful and confident that you will achieve success in the future, and believing in yourself to move forward.”  Claudia now advances to the District-level contest April 18.  Finalists from that contest will then go on to the Pacific West District, which offers scholarships of $1000, $1500, and $2500. What does Claudia believe about optimism?  Read her speech here.

Welcome from the Principal

Our Mission

To create a nurturing, safe environment that focuses on the unique academic, emotional, social, and physical needs of adolescents as they transition from elementary to high school.

To offer, through shared decision-making, a quality academic curriculum, a variety of experiences, and all possible opportunities for success.

At Matilija Junior High School, we take these goals very seriously. Everything we do, in fact, is focused on helping our students achieve in a safe, nurturing environment. Along with our challenging curriculum, our strong athletic program, and our rich and varied extracurricular opportunities, we seek to form strong partnerships with our parents and community. These partnerships over the years have been essential in creating Matilija’s legacy of excellence, and we will strive to continue that legacy for all students in our community. We hope you will join us!
