OUSD Attendance Policy and Procedures

Attendance Policy

Education Code 48260(a):  Any pupil subject to compulsory full-time education or to compulsory continuation education who is absent from school without valid excuse three full days in one school year or tardy or absent for more than any 30-minute period during the school day without a valid excuse on three occasions in one school year, or any combination thereof, is a truant and shall be reported to the attendance supervisor or to the superintendent of the school district.

Attendance Procedures

Truancy:
(Unexcused Absence: Any absence that has not been verified by a parent or guardian.)

1.) After 3 unexcused absences Truancy Letter 1 is sent to parents/guardian. Example of letter, Click Here.

2.) After 4 unexcused absences Truancy Letter 2 is sent to parents/guardian. Example of letter, Click Here.

3.) After 5 unexcused absences Truancy Letter 3 (Saturday School required) is sent to parents/guardian. Example of letter, Click Here.

4.) After 6 unexcused absences SARB Letter 4 (Student Attendance Review Board required) is sent to parents/guardian. Example of letter, Click Here.

Verified Truancy:
(Verified Absence: Any absence that has been verified by a parent or guardian.)

1.) After 12 or more verified absences Truancy Letter 1 is sent to parents/guardian. Example of letter, Click Here.

2.) After 15 verified absences Truancy Letter 2 is sent to parents/guardian. Example of letter, Click Here.

3.) After 16 verified absences Truancy Letter 3 (Saturday School required) is sent to parents/guardian. Example of letter, Click Here.

4.) After 17 verified absences SARB Letter 4 (Student Attendance Review Board required) is sent to parents/guardian. Example of letter, Click Here.

Single Period Absences:

1.) After 18 periods of unexcused absences Absence Letter 1 is sent to parents/guardian. Example of letter, Click Here.

2.) After 24 periods of unexcused absences Absence Letter 2 is sent to parents/guardian. Example of letter, Click Here.

3.) After 30 periods of unexcused absences Absence Letter 3 (Saturday School required) is sent to parents/guardian. Example of letter, Click Here.
