About Our School
Topa Topa Elementary School has twice been recognized as a California Distinguished School. The recognition has come to this school for its commitment to excellence exemplified by tremendous parent involvement and support as well as the calm, orderly, safe campus environment. From our colorful, flower laden hallways, to our new library-media center, beauty and function are always at the forefront. The Topa Topa curriculum and assessments are standards based. The outstanding teachers work as a team to continue to refine and improve instructional strategies to meet the needs of each of our children both academically and emotionally.
Topa Topa is a K-6 elementary school in the heart of the City of Ojai. It has a diverse population and a strong English Language Learner Program. The school has worked hard on integrating students with unique programs and caring, encouraging teachers who hold high expectations for student success.
Preschools are prevalent in the Ojai Valley and Junior Kindergarten is available at Topa Topa. Most of our children come to Kindergarten with some preschool experience.
Topa Topa is a Title 1 School. In order to provide assistance to meet the needs of all children, the school has an extensive after school intervention and enrichment program and Prescribed Instruction during the day for students with Reading needs. The ELL program provides certificated teacher instruction and Instructional assistants with standards based materials available to students at their learning level. Extra curricular activities are also available to the students after school with Drama, Art instruction, Extra PE, Healthy Kids instruction, and band. Making connections to provide student success is a goal for the students at Topa Topa.
The school has a remodeled library media center. This large, state-of-the-art facility houses about 10,000 books and 34 computers linked to the internet via high-speed data transfer. All children have access to the computer lab and library.

It also establishes transitional kindergarten classes for those students with fall birthdays. Transitional kindergarten is the first year of a two year kindergarten program.
However, with the recent release of the Governor’s proposed budget for the 2012-2013 school year, the funding for the newly implemented Transitional Program has been eliminated.
Given this budget uncertainty, the State TK Program in the Ojai Unified School District will not be implemented unless the funding for the TK program is included in the final adopted State budget. As a result, the District will not be conducting registration for the State TK program at this time.
If you were planning on enrolling your student into the Ojai Unified School District’s State TK program, please be aware of the uncertainty around this program as you consider options for the 2012-2013 school year. Phone your neighborhood school for more details as some schools may be offering or have offered programs for our youngest students. Topa Topa will again offer a TK program for students with late summer or fall birthdays.
Please note that November 1 is the age eligibility date for admission into Kindergarten for the 2012-2013 school year. Parents/guardians may pick up a registration packet at their attendance area school beginning February 3rd, 2012. Kindergarten registration continues through February and will occur at the respective attendance area school.
