The Ojai Unified School District was formed effective July 1, 1966 as a consolidation of Nordhoff Union School District and Nordhoff Union High School District.  Also included in the consolidation were the school districts of San Antonio, which was founded in 1887, and Summit, which was founded in 1915.

The District covers the Northwestern section of Ventura County bounded on the North by Cuyama District, on the East by Santa Paula School Districts, and on the South by Ventura Unified School District.
